Before an idea, story, or project takes form, I wander for perspective and inspiration. These are the stories along the Way.

integratron

The road sign promised something called Integratron, and curiosity did the rest.

The name alone sounded like it could have been dreamed up in a sci-fi paperback, and out here, with the flat Mojave stretching in every direction, it didn’t feel out of place. Then the dome appeared; bright white against the pale scrub, like a spaceship had landed and politely decided to stay.

Built in the 1950s by George Van Tassel, a man who claimed both aerospace engineering and extraterrestrial inspiration, the Integratron was designed as a machine for rejuvenation, time travel, and contact with the beyond. The structure itself feels charged, as if the desert air is just holding its breath around it.

I pulled up to the gate, where the signs reminded me that entry is by reservation only. The gates were closed, and the place was quiet, save for the dry wind moving through the trees.

Nearby, another dome sat in the sand, smaller, silent, like a lookout keeping watch. A reminder that in the middle of all this sun and dust, people still build things meant to stretch the imagination.
