sesame street / vila sésamo

My wife is learning Portuguese right now, and one of the ways she picks up on new languages is by listening to songs and TV shows in the native language. While surfing around online, she found out about this show, Vila Sésamo, which is the Brazilian version of Sesame Street! Cool.

There is [...]

as you think so shall you become: process

Here’s all my steps of the painting, starting with the canvas sketch for the Bruce Lee show, “Nature of Water”. If you look at a few blog entries below, you can see the original ink drawing from my notebook before the canvas. The title of the piece is from a Bruce Lee Quote, “As [...]

being thankful

When it comes around this time of year, I think about what I have to be thankful for. My close friends and family over the years are always at the top of that list. My mom and high school art teacher were a big influence on me taking art seriously. I never thought I [...]

garrett lisi and the theory of everything

In art I feel it is important to be open to influences outside of the field. My dad is an engineer; so math, science, and left-brain thinking were a daily routine along with my make-believe worlds and dinosaurs when I was little. Most of what I enjoyed discussing science-wise were alternate dimensions, event horizons, [...]

as you think, so shall you become

So I thought a good starting point for the Bruce Lee show would be to follow the theme of Bruce Lee’s philosophies. He’s got a ton of really inspiring quotes.

One that jumped out to me was, “As you think, so shall you become.”

This made me think of all the people I’ve respected [...]

tom & jerry, monkeys & mules, humans also

I’m working on painting for a gallery show, so next best thing to do is get influenced by some new ideas and perspectives. My wife is a fan of the old Tom and Jerry cartoons (50′s and 60′s), and so am I. I’ve always enjoyed the cartoons where the visual humor and timing carried [...]

toysrevil interview

I just did an interview with toysrevil.blogspot.com. It’s a really cool place to get news on upcoming releases, as well as other artist interviews. I try to answer some questions about my creative process and general details about the golem toy. Thanks for digging my work Andy!

sunfish or mola mola, same fish

I’m working on this layout of a cityscape for a project and having alot of fun with it. I was looking around at creatures to inspire ideas for architecture and found a good one. The Sunfish, also known as a Mola Mola. It looks like a huge freakin’ head doing a split sideways. Awesome. [...]

project updates

So I’ve been juggling a few projects lately……

I’m going to start working on my idea for an upcoming gallery’s Bruce Lee themed show. I’ve never created an image paying homage to Bruce Lee before….should be fun to see how this ends up. I’ll be posting progress pictures from concept to finished product on [...]

state fair: stunt dogs, pig racing, card stacking, cotton candy, and a big ferris wheel

My wife and I just went to the state fair. We had alot of fun, and saw alot of stuff. There was was a stunt dog show, which was awesome, and the pig races were pretty cool too. In a nearby museum there was a guy who was breaking another world record in stacking cards. It was insane! His approach and technique are truly remarkable, because he uses no adhesives in the building process. The architecture surrounding the fairground caught my eye especially. There were these weird statues along this small waterway, 6 of them in distinct positions with different symbols on each one. I think I’m going to try and find out the story behind them.

All in all, a day well spent.

Keep reading below to see all the fair pictures, I took a bunch.
