One of the best lessons I learned in character design from my teacher in college, Mike Genz, was that everything in the world was made up of a combination of 3 shapes: circles, squares, and triangles.
Something I like to do for reference and inspiration for new character designs is pay attention to what fashion designers are developing. I often find the designers who are turning heads are simultaneously pushing the mold and innovating a style like a well-drawn image. To keep myself from settling too much into a certain way of drawing things, it’s refreshing to see what kind of stuff is going on in that world and apply that in my own art. Here’s a few shots from 3 design projects that I found interesting.
